I set up and tear down finish and start lines., and perform back up timing at both Run Toledo events and Dave’s sponsored events. My wife and I also time many mid-sized races together each year. I do on course split timing for road races and transition splits for triathlons and duathlons.
I have been a Race Director for both small and large events (prediction runs and The Blade 10K). I am currently the Assistant Director for a couple of small events each year. I’ve been the Equipment Coordinator for the Toledo Roadrunners Club for over 28 years and have been timing races for over 40 years. I worked for the City of Toledo and the City of Bowling Green, retiring in 2011.
I was awarded the RRCA National Volunteer award in 2004, won the Toledo Roadrunners Club Worker of the Year in 1980 and the Sy Mah Endurance Award in 1989. I am a Certified Timer for Race Day Timing (2019).
I ran 100 plus marathons and numerous triathlons between 1977 and 2010. My PR for a marathon is 2:40. In 2001, I began competing in Adventure Races, placing in the top 3 overall in multiple events and qualifying for the nationals three times. Three joint replacements have curbed my running.
I bike with my wife regularly when weather permits. We do a week long bike tour yearly and look for new trails to explore when visiting other areas of Ohio and the rest of the country. I have a racing/commuting push scooter I use to get trail miles in when I want a change from biking. I also try to walk regularly. I enjoy watching sports on TV and in person. I have season tickets for Rocket football, and both men’s and women’s basketball.
I love being a part of the behind-the-scenes organization of races. I take pride in providing runners with a positive race experience. It is important to me that all runners have accurate times – from the elite to the back-of-the-pack walkers. The running community is huge part of my life – many family and friendship memories are centered around local and out of town races.
